Wednesday 31st August 1994 - Coming Home

There's a reason some flights are cheaper than others and we all know what that is! Unsociable flight times and non-direct. Well that was my return journey from Karachi to London in a nutshell!
I did get a little bit of sleep but I kept tossing and turning knowing I'd have to be up nice and early. Since I was staying in an airport hotel getting to the airport was easy even though it was 05.20am. There were problems with check in since the system kept going down but, apart from that, there was no hassle. There was a cafe upstairs and my journal tells me I got tea and chicken sandwiches. The flight left Karachi for Abu Dhabi and, this time we could get off.
I'd been to Abu Dhabi before on Far East long haul holidays and I recorded that getting out there was like stepping right back into the modern world once more. It's a circular building with duty free downstairs and departures upstairs. I got some items for my parents.

The flight from Abu Dhabi was a 767 and I got seat 40A which is a really good one right at the back where I prefer to sit - easy access to the toilets! The bad news was that the flight went via Doha just as it did on the way out. In my entry for 10.55am it mentions the stunning views on take off of the corniche and oil refineries.

There are no further entries in my journal. I did not write anything about the Doha to Heathrow leg of the journey so that was it. My epic journey to Pakistan had come to an end.

  1. It's just that not many Islamic nations have managed to put the principle into practice, take Syria for example!
